Is 2022 the year of Skincare?
The Skincare Revolution
Over the past 10 years, there has been a huge growth in the beauty community. With the growth and influence of YouTube everyone became Makeup obsessed, however in the past few years there seems to have been a shift from heavy contour and cut creases to fresh barely there look.
This change has been the result of a number of combining factors. Particularly with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic with Vogue reporting that consumer buying in the beauty industry changed with people becoming ‘self-care’ obsessed, as nobody left the house and switched makeup for face masks. Of course it is only right to give a honourable mention to Skincare by Hyram who grew rapidly on TikTok and YouTube following his reaction to celebrity skincare and offering his viewers expert level advice on how to take care of their skin. Hyram recommend many affordable options such as Cerave and the Ordinary. But skincare isn’t something that’s ‘one size fits all’, you have to find the routine that works for you and your skin type. This can be difficult with the endless amount of options available particularly in the past year with a huge push of consumer interest it can be hard to know whether you are buying into a trend or something that is going to last. So let’s take a look at some of the trending skincare brands at the moment.
SKKN by Kim.
It’s not secret that the Kardashian’s are marketing master minds, and as they say the devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder. Kim is always making headlines but in the past year she has particularly been showcasing her amazing skin, from makeup-less photos on her instagram to featuring on their new Hulu show studying for the bar exam while bare faced. This of course had her audience asking ‘ what is your skincare routine’ and ‘how to have this skin at 40’. Notably when first talking of her rumeroured boyfriend at the time Pete Davidson the conversation revolved around their shared love for skin care which when it comes to the Kardashian’s we can only assume was no coincidence.
Kim’s range launched with a 9 step skincare routine, which can be purchased individually and as a set. This will set you back £600 but buying the set will save you £100. Worth it? The line has been curated in collaboration with beauty empire Coty who have stated in an interview that 2023 will be the year of skincare and the company is heavily focused on building up the skincare along with their other beauty and makeup brands. It’s difficult to say just how involved Kim was with the line or if she is just endorsing it, the packaging is however very Kim and is even refillable.
Rhode by Hailey Bieber
When I think of Hailey Beiber, the first things that come to mind are good skin and a good outfit. Hailey has been teasing the launch of her skincare line for years now and her fans have been anticipating the launch. Hailey is heavily involved in d very aspect of her new venture and speaks in depth about the process on her YouTube channel. Hailey has launched with a smaller product range than SKKN, the range also has a focus on hydration and creating the ‘glazed donut’ skin, the products are also more affordable than Kims product and the line seems more authentic.
What’s next?
Kim and Hailey aren’t the first celebrities to venture into the world of skincare and I cant see them being the last. The thing with skincare - like makeup is that it isn’t one size fits all and you have to shop around to find the products and routine to meet your budget and needs. But what is the perfect skincare routine?
